For the second Olympics in succession, Germany have taken gold in the luge team relay.

In 2014 Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt were the victors and four years on Loch was replaced by Johannes Ludwig, who had won a silver in the singles event. They finished three tenths ahead of the Canadian team of Alex Gough, Samuel Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith. This was a great improvement by the Canadians who just missed out on a medal at Sochi when they finished behind Russia and Latvia.
Bronze went to the Austrian foursome of Madeleine Egle, David Gleirscher, Peter Penz and Georg Fischler a completely different team to the one which competed in Sochi and what a difference that made.
Geisenberger was the fastest woman on the circuit in her run, whereas Ludwig was behind Edney of Canada and Gleirscher of Austria as the men’s doubles blitzed the field to bring home the gold.
The United States team of Summer Britcher, Chris Mazdzer, Matthew Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman missed out on the bronze medal by just a tenth.
